It was wonderful to see you all at the return of our annual exhibition after two years online. The Opening Night took place in the Round Tower in the Celtic Ross Hotel which offered their kind support of the evening once again.
The exhibition was opened by Caroline Murphy, owner of West Cork Eggs, who spoke compellingly about the importance of the Irish Community Rapid Response©, our chosen charity for this event. This was highlighted by the real-life experiences shared by, and on behalf of, those who had directly benefited from their services. We heard how a young girl in her early twenties had suffered a heart attack sitting in the garden of her family home and was revived a number of times before being taken to CUH at incredible speed. Another told how a day out with a group of lads sightseeing on the coast turned into a serious incident when one fell down the cliff and lay, badly injured and unable to move, in a spot where normal manoeuvres were impossible. The final experience was shared by one of our members whose 8-week-old grandniece was found unresponsive in her crib by her mother. The actions of the ICCR meant the baby arrived at CUH twenty minutes after the initial call and is now a happy 18-month-old running about and giving joy.
The exhibition continues in the Celtic Ross with all works produced by members of the Clonakilty Camera Club. Photographs are mounted and have a plain, black 20×16″ frame. You’ll find an attractive range of styles and a wide variety of subjects, many of them local. Photographs are for sale at a cost of €75, of which a minimum of €50 goes to the Irish Community Rapid Response©. The sale of one photograph can purchase a stethoscope or breathing and airway equipment for two children.
